A couple of weeks ago I shared on Instagram that I had surprised my hubby with a beach trip for his birthday, and I am so excited to finally be sharing all the deets with you! I had been planning this trip for MONTHS with the help of his best buds (thanks guys!) and chose San Diego as our destination. Brandon had never been to San Diego, but I spent a lot of time there in my late teens, so I am pretty familiar with the city and felt confident it was just the place for him to ring in his 30’s. (The boy loves water and his whole “laid-back vibe” is SO San Diego.)
The best part of this surprise, was that Brandon had thought that we were going to be spending his big day at a company retreat in Vail/Beaver Creek. Every year our partners whisk all their realtors away to a fabulous mountain lodge, and bring a nationally acclaimed guest speaker, and every year it happens to be on Brandon’s birthday. Now, a fabulous mountain lodge is nothing to frown about, but being that it was his big 30, I had to switch it up and celebrate him properly! #duh
He was totally surprised when I told him to pack his bags less than 36 hours before the flight left. (He honestly had no idea!) It was so nice to give him the peace of not having to worry about the details (or the fact that he was entering a new decade). Of course, worrying is what I do, so I thought about every last detail including what to wear! #obvi Luckily, LuLu*s was on board to help me out in that department, starting off with today’s look which answers the very serious girl question of, “what to wear on a plane.”

For airport travel, comfort is key and, after a bad experience with what I thought was a “comfortable wedge sandal”, you can guarantee you’re going catch me in flats from here on out. And, when comfort meets cute, like these menswear-inspired herringbone oxfords, it’s a win-win situation.
Another key travel component for me is layers! Not only can climate change from departure to arrival, but plane temps are always so unpredictable and I need to be able to adjust accordingly.
Finally, an oversized tote is pretty much a no brainer for carrying on-flight essentials such as magazines, iPad, headphones, KIND bars, etc. You just can’t go wrong with a big bag while on the go.
Follow along this week as travel in style with LuLu*s, and be sure to catch all the travel diary details by using the hashtag #behrsgotosandiego on Insta.

That's such a brilliant surprise, I hope you had a really great time. I quite often fly long haul and want to be as comfy as possible as I am likely to be n the same outfit for 24 hours and I will be sleeping in it. I love how you paired a really simple leggings and top with that gorgeous coat. Its stylish for walking through the airport then take it of and throw it in the luggage bin (or use as an extra blanket) and you will be super comfy for the whole flight. Great post- dropping by from #Allaboutyou
