Thanksgiving is over, and I’m finally allowed to deck the halls – per our family rule to not even think about Christmas until Turkey Day has passed. Does anyone else follow that rule? Sure, I’ve broken it a few times, as I do every year, and may have listened to a Christmas song or two. But now, it’s all Christmas all the time for the next 25 days. #sorrynotsorry
We rung in the official kick off of the Christmas season by spending Saturday evening at The Broadmoor’s lighting ceremony, then picked out the perfect Christmas tree on Sunday morning. We spent the rest of the day unpacking our Christmas boxes, and blasting our home full of Christmas music and cheer. To top it off, I put a pot of fragrant stovetop potpourri on.
This concoction is filled with all the best scents of the season: cranberries, cloves, cinnamon, star anise, vanilla and pine branches, for good measure. You would not believe how amazing this smells! I can easily see this becoming a yearly tradition, to christen the home for Christmas spirit. If you have a party to host in the coming season, I highly recommend throwing this on first thing in the morning, and letting the fragrance fill your home all day as it simmers. Your guests will be in for a treat!
I got all these ingredient with a little help from King Soopers, and their Live Naturally line. They just released a new campaign where you can get a free goodie here. I picked up this Castor & Pollux bone for Kygo, completely free of charge! Let’s just say, he had something to be thankful for this holiday.
Christmas Stovetop Potpourri
Recipe Adapted From Half Baked Harvest
Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh cranberries
- 3 tangerines, halved
- 3 whole cinnamon sticks
- 2 star anise
- 1 teaspoon whole cloves
- 1 vanilla bean + 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 small branch fresh pine
- 1 cup pomegranate
- water
Combine all ingredients in pot, filling 3/4 of the pot with water. Bring to boil, then turn down heat and allow to simmer for at least 4 hours. Continue to add water to the pot, as the liquid evaporates. You can let the pot cool down overnight, and reheat and simmer the next day, for a full weekend of Christmas goodness!
