Good morning NYC! We landed late yesterday, after a long day of travel. I’m taking the day to recoup before heading to a few shows over the weekend. I’ve got my family here with me, so we are taking in all the sites, which is always fun.
I’ve done quite a bit of traveling over the past few years, and have learned some tricks that keep me sane during and post flight – so I thought I would share them.

Audio books – I’m a huge fan of Audible. I feel like I never have time to just sit down and read a book (self diagnosed ADHD kicks in!). That’s why audio books are perfect. I just finished Rob Bell’s “Love Wins” and am starting on his book “Why The Bible“. Have any of you ever read Rob Bell? I’m really digging him right now!
Headphones – This goes without saying, but I never travel without a pair. (Or a few pairs, cuz you just never know.) I love these ones from Sudio.
Snacks – I always try to pack healthy snacks like dried mangos, jerky, nuts and plantains. Airport snacks are a fortune to buy, and I get so annoyed when I don’t plan and end up paying a ton for them. I paid $4 for a small think thin bar last time I traveled, so I came prepared, this time! LOL
Sweater – There is nothing worse that being stuck on a 3 hour flight freezing. It’s crucial for me to layer, if I want to enjoy the flight. I usually will base layer with a tee or tank top, and wear a cardigan or trench over.
Collagen Face Mask – This is a total post-flight essential! Flying wreaks havoc on my skin, so I always treat myself to a face mask, after traveling, to bring it back to life. I love these by Patchology because they only take 5 minutes! (Shout out to Taylor at Restorative Injectables for introducing me to them!)
Water – My friends always tease me for how much water I drink, so I’m sure they are chuckling at this one! I make it a goal to drink 2 smart waters by the time I get done flying. It really helps with the jet lag!
Backup Charger – I mentioned this was one of the 5 things I plan on taking to NYFW, but I always travel with it. I don’t understand why all planes don’t have chargers, but you just never know. And more don’t than do, so I always have a backup. I use this one by Mophie.
Roll My Ankles – I have a major fear of blood clotting while flying (happened to my mom years ago, and her and I have a blood clotting disorder in our blood) so I always make sure to roll my ankles every 30 minutes to help prevent clotting.
Baby Aspirin – Same reason as above. I take a baby aspirin everyday, but step it up to a full aspirin the day before, during and after travel.
Well, I’m off to go do some sightseeing. Hope you all have a great day. If you have any must-dos/sees for me while I’m in Manhattan, or if you have any travel tips, I’d love you to share them in the comments below!
