Styling a dress over jeans is one of the hottest fall trends. When temps are too chilly for summer dresses, wearing a dress over jeans is the answer to extending your summer wardrobe longer. Not only that, it just looks cool. When it comes to wearing a dress over jeans, I stick to a few simple tricks.
1. Stick to fitted jeans – oversized baggy jeans just don’t do it for me here, folks. I love these by Levi’s because they are just loose enough, while still being fitted, to achieve a super chic look.
2. Let the dress be the star – I know embellished denim is in right now, but the fact that you are styling a dress over jeans is a big enough fashion statement. Don’t try to overcompensate with flashy jeans that overpower the overall look.
3. Stick to mid or full length – we’ve been wearing short dresses like tunics over denim for years, guys. This is all about elevating your look to the next level, and I find that mid to full length dresses do just that. It makes the whole dress over jeans look unique and expected. I mean, why fit in when you were born to stand out?!
Now, this is the part where I drop my products links for you to shop the look, but in full disclosure…I have to say, I HATE this dress! I’m not going to drop the link, because I don’t want to dis the brand, but it’s so bad, and I have to be upfront with you about that. (We’ve been friends for too long, after all!) Not only is this dress tight (like I could barely breathe, tight), but the arm sleeves are tiny – I could barely fit my arms in them, and I have pretty thin arms. I even had to have Brandon put my shoes on for me, because bending over in this, was just not an option. I was pretty strategic with which photos I chose, because it also does nothing for “the girls”, if you know what I mean. I chose to post these photos, because I do think it shows a great example of how to style a summer dress over jeans, but I’m not going to promote this piece because it’s a total fail. I hope you guys know I will always be honest with you about that!
